Joe is a partner with the Restructuring and Insolvency Group at Cassels Brock. His practice includes representing debtors and creditors and court-appointed monitors and receivers in insolvency, restructuring and commercial matters.
Joe has appeared before all levels of court in restructuring and insolvency matters, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Joe is an executive member of the Insolvency Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. In addition, he has written and co-written various articles and papers in the field of restructuring and insolvency.
Some of Joe's recent significant matters include:
· Acting for the Federal Government of Canada, through Industry Canada, in connection with the restructuring of both General Motors and Chrysler - the transaction involved over US$12.5 billion of new Canadian Government financing and included a number of extremely time-sensitive issues, including cross-border insolvency, M&A, financing and litigation
· Acting for aircraft lessors in connection with appeals to the Ontario Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada in the bankruptcies of Canada 3000 Airlines and Royal Aviation
· Acting for an auto parts supplier in CCAA proceedings
· Representing a major group of aircraft lessors in the CCAA restructuring of Air Canada
· Acting for a major bidder in the Stelco restructuring in a $1.1 billion refinancing bid
· Representing the lessors of Jetsgo's aircraft in the bankruptcy of Jetsgo Corporation
Joe has also been involved in various other restructuring and insolvency engagements in the automotive, steel, mining, retail, sports and entertainment industries.
