Joseph J. Russell, Jr. is a Shareholder and Co-Chair of the Family Law Department at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, P.A. Mr. Russell practices throughout New Jersey with regular appearances in Ocean, Monmouth, Bergen, Somerset, Middlesex, Morris, Essex, Hunterdon, Union and Burlington Counties.
While Mr. Russell focuses his practice on significant and high net worth matrimonial disputes he represents individuals from all walks of life. Mr. Russell's clients include, but are not limited to, business owners, doctors, attorneys, corporate executives, financial advisors, professional athletes, celebrities, television/radio personalities, teachers, policeman, firemen and accountants. Mr. Russell exclusively practices in the area of Family Law concentrating on issues of divorce, alimony, child custody, visitation, child support, equitable distribution of assets/liabilities, business valuations, protection of exempt assets, family trusts, domestic violence proceedings, domestic partnerships, civil unions, same sex marriage, prenuptial agreements and appeals. Mr. Russell is a R. 1:40 Qualified Mediator where he conducts both private and court appointed mediations.
Mr. Russell started his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert A. Fall in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division. Mr. Russell also clerked during law school for the Assignment Judge in Ocean County, the Honorable Vincent J. Grasso.
Mr. Russell serves on the Family Law Executive Committee (FLEC) to the New Jersey State Bar Association. Mr. Russell serves on the Family Law Executive Committee, Law Day Committee and is Past Chair of the Young Lawyer's Division in Ocean County Mr. Russell serves as an Early Settlement Panelist in Middlesex County. Mr. Russell serves on the Family Law Executive Committee and as an Intensive Settlement Panelist in Monmouth County.
Mr. Russell is a frequent lecturer and author on New Jersey Family Law with various organizations and the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (“ICLE”). A selection of Mr. Russell's presentations include: Annual presentation of the Wilentz Annual Case Law Summary Digest to the Middlesex, Somerset and Union County Bar Associations every year since 2006; Presentation of Hot Tips in New Jersey Family Law; Presentation of how the Trial of Domestic Violence Matter to the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (“ATLA”); and Presentation of Tax Issues relevant to a Divorce Proceeding.
Mr. Russell is very involved with LADACIN Network (an acronym for Lifetime Assistance for Developmental and Challenging Individual Needs). LADACIN Network is a non-profit agency whose mission is to provide education, therapeutic, social, residential and support services for people with cerebral palsy or other physical disabilities in Monmouth/Ocean Counties. Mr. Russell organizes and sponsors LADACIN's Annual Polar Bear Plunge (see www.ladacin.org). Mr. Russell also serves on the LADACIN Network Rosebud Gala and New Jersey Marathon Committees.
