Mr. Finnerty has over 25 years of experience developing and leading legal teams in complex, high-profile litigation. As chief outside counsel to one of the nation’s largest daily newspapers, as well as through representation of a press association and television and radio news stations, Mr. Finnerty has been involved in all aspects of libel and First Amendment law, including defamation defense, access, subpoenas, prior restraint, prepublication review, and publication and media relations issues. He has represented corporate clients, including a major public utility client, in environmental litigation and administrative proceedings concerning waste disposal sites, claims of natural resource damages, and related matters including cost-recovery actions. Mr. Finnerty’s experience also includes the defense of patent, trademark and unfair competition claims for major corporate clients.
