Professional Experience
Joseph P. Pieroni, Ph.D. focuses on patent prosecution in the field of biotechnology, including technologies related to novel genes and methods for treating various diseases with these genes. Dr. Pieroni's practice also includes opinion work and patent litigation in the biological, biotechnological, pharmaceutical and chemical arts. Some of the technologies he has worked with include cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors, devices for detecting microorganisms, nucleoside analogues for the treatment of HIV and hepatitis B infections, disinfecting and enzymatic cleaning systems for contact lenses, anticancer drugs and laser-based refractive surgery of the eye.
While in law school, Dr. Pieroni served as Notes and Articles Editor and Associate Editor on the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal. His paper, "The Patentability of Expressed Sequence Tags", received the first place award for the 1999 George Hutchinson Writing Competition sponsored by the Federal Circuit Bar Association. Dr. Pieroni was the recipient of the 1999 Thomas F. Reddy, Jr. Prize in intellectual property at Fordham.
Dr. Pieroni received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1988 from New York Medical College, has been published in scientific journals and has presented his research at national and international scientific meetings.
