| Biography | Joe is the Chair of the firm's Litigation section. He specializes in complex commercial and franchise litigation, having tried cases representing both plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts in fourteen states. As Lead Counsel, he has obtained, on behalf of clients, jury verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million in more than 25 cases. He has also represented clients in numerous administrative hearings and appellate courts nationwide, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Joe received his B.A., cum laude, in 1971 from Heidelberg University. He also attended American University in Washington, D.C., and the London School of Economics. He received his J.D. in 1975 from the University of Alabama School of Law. During law school, Joe was a member of the Alabama Law Review and Order of the Coif. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1975, to the Texas Bar in 2001, to the Tennessee State Bar in 2005, and the State Bar of Georgia in 2008. A former faculty member of the Alabama Bar Institute's Continuing Legal Education program on litigation, Joe has also been an annual program speaker for the Business Torts & Antitrust Section of the Alabama State Bar. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. In addition, Joe was selected for inclusion in Alabama Super Lawyers 2008 - 2011, and is listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Commercial Litigation and Franchise Litigation. Joe in the community I am an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 63 in Birmingham. I firmly believe that Scouting is the best activity a young man can undertake to prepare himself for life.
