Josh Tzuker is a counsel in Crowell's public policy practice. Mr. Tzuker specializes in providing strategic counsel, technical advice, and advocacy for clients who have policy challenges before the Congress and Administration. He has more than twelve years of experience in government and private practice, having served as Legislative Director and Counsel for Congressman Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and former Energy and Commerce Chairman John Dingell from 2002-2007.
Mr. Tzuker has deep experience in telecommunications, energy/climate, consumer protection, and intellectual property issues. He has a wealth of experience in assembling large, multi-faceted coalitions that engage the Congress, Executive branch, and non-governmental organizations. He has also provided political risk due diligence for sensitive corporate transactions as well as counsel for witnesses in Congressional investigations.
In the public sector, Mr. Tzuker worked as a Congressional aide from 1997-2007, leaving as Counsel to then-Energy and Commerce Chairman John D. Dingell. In that role, he helped draft and negotiate legislation that enacted the National Instant Check System for firearm purchases- legislation that was endorsed by both gun control groups and the NRA. As Legislative Director for Jim Matheson, he helped secure federal payments for people poisoned by open-air nuclear testing during the 1950s.
Mr. Tzuker is active in Democratic politics and worked as Voter Protection coordinator for northwest Ohio during the 2008 Presidential election and has worked on political campaigns for Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley and Maryland congressional races.
