Julie focuses her practice primarily on representing management in all aspects of Labor & Employment law, including litigation before the federal and state courts and administrative agencies. Her practice includes a variety of matters relating to wrongful discharge, sexual harassment, employment discrimination and labor relations, including claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (sex, race, religion, national origin, etc.), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988, the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and any and all other federal statutes involving the employment relationship. With respect to state matters, Julie handles claims/litigation in all state courts (circuit and appellate levels) involving matters relating to workers' compensation, retaliatory discharge under the Workers' Compensation Act and unemployment compensation claims, as well as any and all tort claims in the employment context. Julie's practice also includes appellate work before the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, the Alabama Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and petitions before the U.S. Supreme Court, and representation of business clients in a wide variety of business torts before the state and federal courts.
Julie received her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Alabama, and received her J.D. from the Alabama School of Law. Before joining Burr & Forman LLP, Julie served as law clerk for Senior Judge Robert J. Bradley of the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, served as Senior Staff Counsel for the Alabama Supreme Court for Justices Henry B. Stegall, Terry L. Butts and Champ Lyons, Jr., and was Operations Counsel for Caremark, Inc. She is a member of the American Bar Association's Sections of Labor Relations, Litigation and Tort and Insurance Practice, and is also affiliated with the Birmingham Bar Association and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. Julie is admitted to practice before all U.S. District Courts in Alabama, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. In her spare time, Julie enjoys spending time with her two sons, Adam and Sam, and working with United Way of Birmingham and St. Anne's Home for Women.
