Justin Paul is an Intellectual Property associate in Mayer Brown's Chicago office. Justin has experience in a broad spectrum of intellectual property matters including patent and trademark litigation, prosecution, due diligence, counseling and enforcement.
Justin's experience in trademark and trade dress matters includes preparing, prosecuting, and maintaining domestic and foreign trademark applications and registrations; providing trademark and trade dress clearance opinions; trademark enforcement; and preparing oppositions to third-party registrations before the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Justin has also litigated Lanham Act and state unfair competition claims in federal court.
Justin's patent experience includes litigating patents in federal courts, drafting petitions for inter partes review before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board, conducting due diligence reviews, counseling clients on patent validity and infringement, and prosecution. He has represented a diverse array of clients in both utility patent and design patent matters in fields such as pharmaceuticals, nutrition products, medical devices, consumer goods, apparel, mobile device applications and automotive products.
Justin's litigation experience includes arguing dispositive and non-dispositive motions, motion practice during all phases of litigation, trial preparation, expert discovery, written fact discovery and taking depositions.
Prior to attending law school, Justin worked in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, holding several engineering and engineering management positions. Justin's experience included designing a manufacturing process for a patented breast cancer treatment, validating processes/products per FDA regulations, and optimizing manufacturing processes for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals.
