Background
Justine is a partner at our Toronto office. Justine was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994 and has practised exclusively in the intellectual property field since 1990, when she joined a Toronto intellectual property boutique firm as a first year summer student. Justine's practice focuses on the clearance, registration, and licensing of trade-marks and the enforcement of trade-mark rights through opposition and summary cancellation proceedings in addition to sending demand letters and negotiating settlement agreements.

Professional Experience
Justine's expertise encompasses non-traditional trade-marks and pharmaceutical marks. Justine provides strategic guidance on the global clearance and protection of trade-marks and the management of international trade-mark portfolios. Justine also specializes in trade dress protections, and the strategic use of trade-mark design, and copyright regimes to develop comprehensive trade dress rights.
Justine is a fellow of IPIC and Vice-Chair of the IPIC International Trade Mark Issues committee. She is actively involved with several international industry associations including: International Trademark Association, Intellectual Property Owners Association, MARQUES, and recently European Communities Trade Mark Association.
Justine is a frequent presenter and writer on trade-mark and trade dress matters and is the senior principal editor of an online International Trademark Association (INTA) publication on trade dress protection and enforcement around the world. She also co-authored the Canadian country profile for this publication. In addition, Justine co-authored the trade-mark chapters in Intellectual Property Disputes, published by Carswell.
Justine was awarded the 2010 INTA Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Committee Objectives, in recognition of her past and ongoing work as Principal Editor of Trade Dress: International Practice and Procedures. In 2009, Justine was recognized as a leading Canadian trade-mark practitioner in a peer review ("Experts' Expert") conducted by World Trademark Review magazine.
