Upon joining Young Conaway in 2003, Kara has focused her practice on representing corporations as debtors-in-possession and other major constituents in chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. She currently represents National Envelope Corporation, the largest privately-held envelope manufacturing company in the United States, in its chapter 11 case pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Kara also recently represented Accuride Corporation, one of the largest and most diversified manufacturers and suppliers of commercial vehicle components in North America; Freedom Communications Holdings, Inc., one of the largest privately-held newspaper publishers in the United States; Eddie Bauer Holdings, Inc., a specialty retailer owning and operating 371 stores throughout the United States and Canada; and Regent Communications, Inc., a radio broadcasting company focused on acquiring, developing and operating radio stations in mid-sized markets. As a member of the restructuring teams for Accuride, Freedom, Eddie Bauer and Regent, Kara assisted in the successful reorganization and/or liquidation of each entity.
Other debtor-in-possession representations include Stock Building Supply Holdings, LLC, ProxyMed Transaction Services, Inc., Diamond Glass Corporation, American Home Mortgage Holdings, Inc., Werner Co., Women First Healthcare, Inc., Bonus Stores, Inc., Factory 2-U Stores, Inc., CTC Communications Group, Inc., CMT America Corp., Eteam USA, LLC, and General Datacomm Industries, Inc.
In addition to representing corporate debtors, Kara also represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in Amtrol Holdings, Inc., as well as strategic asset bidders, purchasers and creditors in various chapter 11 cases.
Kara recently co-authored an article for the Delaware Business Court Insider entitled "In Drafting Plan Releases, Consider Your Enemies and Don't be Greedy," summarizing a recent opinion in the In re Washington Mutual, Inc. chapter 11 case.
Kara is a member of the firm's Recruiting Committee. She has represented numerous children as their court-appointed Guardian ad litem in conjunction with the Office of Child Advocate, as well as other pro bono clients.
Kara received her law degree from American University's Washington College of Law, where she served as a recent developments editor for the Administrative Law Review, the official law journal of the American Bar Association Section of Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice. Prior to law school, Kara attended the University of Delaware, where she double-majored in political science and history, and double-minored in philosophy and legal studies.
