Kate Bake-Paterson practises in the area of charities and not-for-profit organizations, corporate/commercial and health law.
Charities/Not-for-Profit Organizations
Ms. Bake-Paterson advises charities and other not-for-profit organizations on a wide range of issues, including corporate governance and other issues arising in their day-to-day operations as well as various matters relating to their endowments.
She has assisted not-for-profit organizations in preparing their constitutions and by-laws and has advised on various governance issues as well as more traditional corporate matters, including drafting contracts. She is experienced at drafting various types of endowment agreements as well as advising on the legal implications of an organization's existing endowments.
Corporate/Commercial; Infrastructure (PPP)
Ms. Bake-Paterson advises clients on various types of commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, equity and debt financings and the formation and organization of various corporate and partnership structures, and provides general corporate advice to clients on an on-going basis. She is experienced at drafting various types of corporate and commercial agreements as well as in conducting due diligence reviews in connection with corporate transactions.
Ms. Bake-Paterson has also worked on significant infrastructure projects in Canada, including the Canada Line Project, the Kicking Horse Canyon Project and the Golden Ears Bridge Project in British Columbia and the Calgary Ring Road Project in Alberta.
Health Law
In the area of health law, Ms. Bake-Paterson assists both public and private-sector health-care providers with their contractual, administrative and regulatory matters, as well as with their corporate governance.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Ms. Bake-Paterson completed a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Political Science. Subsequent to completing her B.A., she received an LL.B. from Dalhousie Law School. Ms. Bake-Paterson articled at Davis LLP prior to joining the firm as an associate in 2004.
