| Biography | KATHERINE N. ADDISON earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus) in 2001, and her Juris Doctor degree from the College of William ;amp; Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law (Williamsburg, Virginia) in 2006. She specializes in prosecution and litigation of patent, trademark, and copyright matters. Her recent experience emphasizes patent drafting and strategic counseling for emerging companies in the medical device and clean technology industries and for highly successful independent surgeons. Before joining Fulwider Patton LLP in 2011, Ms. Addison worked remotely from northern and southern California for an IP boutique law firm based in Chicago. In this capacity, she drafted and prosecuted patent applications, served as the chief contact for California clients, was responsible for west coast marketing and business development initiatives, and represented the firm in various organizations and at various events including the Berkeley Entrepreneurs Forum, Team California, the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) 2010 annual conference in Chicago, and Inventors Alliance SF Bay Area Chapter. Kate has drafted and filed over 50 patent applications including both U.S. (provisionals / nonprovisionals) and international (PCT) applications. She has participated in the prosecution of over 25 applications that resulted in a granted U.S. patent and several more applications that are currently pending. Throughout her career she has also been responsible for Freedom to Operate (FTO) analyses and opinions, FTO and patentability searches, preparation of claim charts during litigation, recording of assignments, review of licenses (including for university spin-offs), drafting IP clauses in employment contracts, trademark searches and mark selection counseling, and international strategy. Kate is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, U.S. District Court for Northern California, U.S. District Court for Central California, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
