Katherine (Kate) Waterston practices Insurance law and is an Associate of the Waterloo office of Miller Thomson LLP.
Kate is a graduate from the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. She was born and raised in Guelph. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2010 after summering and articling with Miller Thomson's Guelph and Waterloo offices.
Prior to law school, in 2005, Kate graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours B.Sc. and an unique combination of double majors in Chemistry and Celtic Studies. Through NSERC grants she was able to research with the University of Guelph's Electrochemical Technology Centre during her last undergraduate summer and for a year prior to her enrolment at law school. Kate's interest in insurance law stems from the combination of advocacy through ADR and litigation and the technical/medical components of Accident Benefits claims.
Kate has been an active participant in extra-curricular activities both in school and in her community. She was a caseworker with Community Legal Aid. She volunteered at the Downtown Mission in Windsor, giving back to a community that was particularly hard hit by the economic downturn. Kate enjoys politics and volunteers with various campaigns and in local government offices.
In her spare time, Kate enjoys playing with her dog, Kilkenny, and spending time with her large extended family and especially at their cottage. She also enjoys reading, watching movies and travelling. In recent years she has had the pleasure to attend weddings for her siblings in such exotic locations as the Dominican Republic and Bulgaria. On Sunday mornings, you can find Kate singing in her church choir.
