Mr. Brodie is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Grand Rapids, Michigan office. He devotes his practice exclusively to labor and employment law. He is a practitioner and counselor to his clients on labor matters including collective bargaining, union organizing, NLRB unfair labor practice charge defense, and labor strategies for mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations. Mr. Brodie also has experience counseling clients regarding the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employment discrimination investigations and claims, employee hiring, discipline and termination, and reductions in force and WARN compliance.
Mr. Brodie regularly conducts supervisor and manager training on a number of labor and employment law topics. He also is a frequent presenter and author. For the past five years, he has been a contributing editor for the following American Bar Association/BNA titles and their yearly supplements: Covenants Not to Compete; Employee Duty of Loyalty; Trade Secrets; and Tortious Interference in the Employment Context.
Mr. Brodie graduated from Alma College summa cum laude in 1991, the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law magna cum laude in 1994, and then clerked for the Honorable Leopold P. Borrello, Chief Judge 10th Judicial Circuit, in Saginaw County, Michigan. He is admitted to practice in Michigan and several federal courts.
