Kelly Burton Smith is a staff attorney in the Intellectual Property Department of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, resident in the firm's Indianapolis, Indiana office. She is a registered patent attorney.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Ms. Smith worked as Deputy Attorney General in Appeals, Civil Rights and Employment Law for the Indiana Attorney General. In this position she performed motion practice, served as co-counsel at bench trials, prepared returns to order and drafted appellate briefs. Ms. Smith also practiced as an associate patent attorney at Inproteo, LLC in Indianapolis, where she prepared provisional patent applications in mechanical and electrical technologies, drafted invention disclosures and performed patent searches, among other duties.
Ms. Smith received her B.A. in biology from Purdue University in 1995 and her M.S. in biology in 1999. She received her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis in 2002, where she was a member of the Moot Court, the Women's Caucus and the Career Services Advisory Board. She is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana.
