Ken Novack is a Senior Counsel (Retired Member) of the firm. Ken practiced law at Mintz Levin from 1966 until 1998. He served on the Executive Committee from 1972 to 1998, as Managing Partner from 1972 to 1978, and as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1991 to 1994. Ken's practice focused on venture capital, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions. He was also instrumental in Mintz Levin's pro bono and community service programs, and in focusing the firm's efforts on the problem of domestic violence.
Ken joined America Online as vice chairman in 1998. He served as an advisor to the chairman, and had responsibility for AOL's legal and venture capital departments. Ken played a lead role in strategic transactions, and was the lead negotiator for AOL in its merger with Time Warner. Following the merger, Ken became vice chairman of the combined company. Since his retirement from Time Warner in 2003, Ken has maintained an office in the firm's Boston office, where he acts as an advisor to the Chairman and Managing Partner.
Ken continues to serve as a director of Time Warner, as well as Appleton Partners, Gordon Brothers Group, Leerink Swann, and Paratek Pharmaceuticals, and he is chairman of Humedica. He is also a member of the advisory board of and General Catalyst Partners. Ken is trustee emeritus and former vice chairman of Tufts Medical Center and Boston's Museum of Science.
Ken lives in Boston with his wife. He has three daughters, a son, and two granddaughters and a grandson. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School.
