Biography

Kenneth M. Gorenberg is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, where he is a member of the firm's Litigation Department and its Policyholder Insurance Recovery and Counseling Practice Group. Mr. Gorenberg's insurance practice focuses on a number of complex issues for corporate policyholders. In addition to litigation of coverage disputes and negotiation of non-litigated but high exposure insurance claims, he performs insurance coverage analyses to help his clients understand and manage the risks associated with their existing operations and the risks they may acquire through corporate transactions. He also works closely with corporate risk management departments and insurance brokers to assess and enhance coverage programs. Mr. Gorenberg has also represented insurance companies and executives in complex litigation regarding the business of insurance.

In addition, Mr. Gorenberg defends manufacturers, design engineers and premises owners in "bet the company" asbestos personal injury litigation in the state of Illinois and throughout the country. Whether coordinating cases in multiple jurisdictions as national counsel for some clients or serving as local counsel for others, Mr. Gorenberg recognizes that asbestos litigation is a serious business problem calling for a thoughtful approach. Each client is unique, and so are its products and cases.

Along with his experience in insurance and asbestos, Mr. Gorenberg has a track record of assisting clients in litigation, arbitration, and negotiation of a wide variety of business disputes. His commercial clients have included financial institutions, hoteliers, real estate developers, publishers, and web-based ticket brokers.

Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Mr. Gorenberg was a partner at Wildman Harrold in Chicago. He earned his B.A. cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Mr. Gorenberg is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), where he co-chairs the Asbestos Subcommittee of the ABA Section of Litigation Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee (ICLC). He is also active in the ABA's Litigation Section, Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, and Business Law Section, and he is a member of the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Gorenberg has a record of pro bono work that includes serving as corporate counsel to a non-profit organization that raises funds to benefit local parks. Mr. Gorenberg supports various community and national charitable causes, primarily in the areas of education and public health. A native of South Jersey, Ken still roots for the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers.

Mr. Gorenberg is admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois and before the Illinois Supreme Court; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Sixth, Seventh, and Tenth Circuits; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, where he is a Trial Bar member; the Central District of Illinois; the Northern District of Indiana; and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.
