Kevin L. McLaren is a partner and a registered patent attorney in the Intellectual Property Department at Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis, Indiana office. He is registered to practice in the state of Indiana, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Dr. McLaren received his J.D. summa cum laude from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 2004. While at IU, Dr. McLaren was a member of the Indiana Law Review, also serving as note development editor for Volume 38, a member of the Dean's Tutorial Society, and a Civil Procedure Fellow. Dr. McLaren received a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and a B.S. in chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in 1983.
He has been accepted into the Sigma Xi Society, is an Honored Member of Empire Who's Who, and is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Marquis' Who's Who: American Law Students. Dr. McLaren is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, has been a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the advancement of Science, and has served as a reviewer for various peer-reviewed journals of chemistry.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Dr. McLaren worked for nearly 20 years in drug discovery and agricultural products research. His research has resulted in the publication of more than 20 journal articles, papers presented at symposia, and issued patents in the United States, as well as many foreign patent counterparts. Dr. McLaren's scientific research includes the design and synthesis of new molecules to treat and control diseases, such as osteoporosis, renal insufficiency, emphysema, inflammation, and others. In addition, Dr. McLaren has experience in the design and synthesis of novel molecules for use as insecticides, including the study of natural products and the development of environmentally friendly compounds for pest regulation.
