| Biography | Kim, a Member in the Litigation Section in Mintz Levin's Boston office, chairs the firm's Insurance/Reinsurance Practice Group. Kim specializes in representing and advising insurers and reinsurers on the business and legal implications of a variety of complex coverage issues. Her breadth of experience includes representing insurers with respect to coverage issues involving pollution, environmental, bad faith, tobacco, construction defect, product liability, directors and officers, bankruptcy, asbestos, and emerging risks. Kim represents cedants and reinsurers in disputes and litigation with respect to the applicability and/or scope of coverage under treaties or facultative certificates. Her practice also includes representing insurers in the London market and in state, bankruptcy, and federal courts across the country. As lead counsel in numerous high-exposure coverage cases, Kim has developed successful models for effective case management and has designed and implemented litigation strategies that are driven by the business needs of the client. Kim also has a broad range of experience in advising and representing companies with respect to commercial business disputes in general, and environmental matters in particular. She co-authored, with former Mintz Levin colleague Stephen Murray, the "Declaratory Judgment" chapter in the definitive Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education compilation, Massachusetts Liability Insurance Manual. She frequently speaks and writes on coverage issues and is an editor of the Insurance Coverage Law Bulletin. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI). She is also an active member of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association and of ARIAS. For her deep knowledge of insurance law, Kim was selected by her peers to be included in the 2007 through 2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America and in the Boston Globe Magazine's 2008 edition of Boston's Best Lawyers. She was also elected in 2008 as a Fellow in Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only fellowship limited to the top 0.05% of litigators in the nation. Every year since 2005, Kim has been listed in Massachusetts Super Lawyers, a special supplement published by Boston Magazine. Kim is a member of the American, Massachusetts, Women's, and Boston bar associations. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a M.S. from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. She is an honors graduate of Suffolk University Law School (Evening Division) in Boston. |
