Koryn M. McHone is an associate in the Labor and Employment Department in the firm's Indianapolis, Indiana office.
Ms. McHone represents management interests in employment litigation and providing employment counseling to employers of all sizes and with varying employment needs. She regularly defends employers in employment matters at the local, state and federal levels, including defense against claims of wrongful discharge, discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, breach of contract, wage/hour violations and violation of employee medical leave rights, among others. Ms. McHone has also litigated claims under the federal False Claims Act. Her litigation experience extends to administrative and judicial forums in various states across the country. In addition, Ms. McHone routinely counsels employers on day-to-day human resources issues to assist in promoting "best employment practices," and assists employers in drafting personnel manuals and policies that will assist them in effectuating those practices, while reflecting up-to-date developments in employment law.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg LLP, Ms. McHone served as an interim law clerk for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, Indianapolis Division. She also worked in private practice in Indianapolis, focusing her attention on employment and labor matters. Ms. McHone received her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her J.D. cum laude from Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington, where she served on the editorial board for the Federal Communications Law Journal, participated in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition, and was selected by the Dean to serve as a member of the Academic Regulations Committee.
Ms. McHone is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Indiana and Illinois, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association (Indianapolis Chapter). As an officer on the Federal Bar Association's Executive Board based in Indianapolis, Ms. McHone interacts with federal practitioners, federal judges and judicial staff regularly throughout the year to assist in coordinating programs designed to educate the legal community on recent developments in federal law and federal practice. Ms. McHone also serves as an associate member on Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Legal Personnel Administration Committee.
