| Biography | For clients innovating in biotechnology, Lance Shaner, Ph.D. skillfully assists in securing patent protection. Clients find in him a quick, insightful understanding of their innovations and applications, rooted in his advanced training in microbiology and molecular genetics as well as his extensive published research in molecular chaperone biology. Dr. Shaner also brings a valued energy and intelligence, qualities demonstrated in the many awards he earned in his studies and his extensive activities during law school, including an internship with the Texas Court of Appeals. With a life-long interest in creating and performing music, he is also involved in pro bono work with Lawyers for the Creative Arts. Recent Client Work: Successfully prosecuted trademarks for producer of children's education material. Counseled client how to protect and enforce these rights. Counseled client regarding copyright issues surrounding composition and recording of client's album. Created contracts to protect client's rights and interests in album. His active commitments included participation in the Student Bar Association and the Intellectual Property Student Association. He was also a judicial intern for Justice Sam Nuchia, the Texas Court of Appeals, First Judicial District. Prior to law school, Dr. Shaner earned his Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. While completing this degree, he was a graduate research assistant in the area of microbiology and molecular genetics. His research focused on the genetics and biochemistry of molecular chaperones in the model eukaryote Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Dr. Shaner received his B.S. in microbiology, with a minor in chemistry, from the University of Illinois. At Illinois, he won the Deboer Summer Undergraduate Research Award, as well as the Colgate-Palmolive Award. Community and Professional Involvement: Lawyers for the Creative Arts, pro bono work.
