| Biography | Few lawyers have the ability to seamlessly transition from catastrophic Medical Malpractice cases to complex Product Liability matters, or from “bet the company” Commercial Litigation actions to devastating Transportation claims, but Larry has earned a national reputation by succeeding in each of these venues. As a result, Larry is considered one of the best civil defense trial lawyers in the country.
Larry’s experience in high profile cases is second to none. Larry represents some of the largest health care providers in the country and has been named national trial counsel by multiple automobile manufacturers and excess insurance carriers. Of his 90 civil jury trials, 69 have involved matters with potential exposure over seven figures. He has successfully defended clients, in some of the most notoriously challenging jurisdictions, across 26 states.
Clients and colleagues are not the only ones who hold Larry in such high regard. Larry was recognized as one of America's Top Ten trial lawyers by The National Law Journal and was previously named by the NLJ as one of the 40 best trial lawyers in the country under the age of 40. The University of Akron School of Law named him as their Outstanding Alumni in 2005, the youngest person to have been awarded that honor. Larry has also been named as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. This honor is awarded to attorneys who are among the elite trial and appellate lawyers within their practice areas throughout the United States. The Litigation Counsel of America is a trial lawyer honorary society established to reflect the face of the American bar. Membership is limited, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers and is by invitation only. He has also been named a “Super Lawyer” 16 times in Ohio, the Mid South, and in Super Lawyer’s Corporate Counsel Magazine.
Perhaps his most distinguished achievement came this year when due to his professionalism, reputation and success, the Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court named Larry as a Commissioner on the Ohio Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline.
Long committed to the teaching and training of young trial lawyers, Larry serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Akron School of Law, where he directs the trial advocacy competition program. His teams have won three national championships and 18 Sixth Circuit regional championships. His dedication, and the success of the program, led to his being named as the Distinguished Adjunct Instructor by the Law School in 2001. Along those same lines, Larry has served as an instructor for the critically acclaimed IADC Trial Advocacy College, as well as a speaker on multiple NITA, DRI and AAJ advocacy programs.
In his spare time, this former D2 college fullback is an avid outdoorsman who is occasionally seen driving his Harley-Davidson down the back roads of Ohio and Tennessee, or working his championship bird dogs in the field. (Also at Franklin, Tennessee Office)
