Lawrence V. Berkovich is a Banking & Finance partner in Mayer Brown's Charlotte office. Larry concentrates his practice on complex structured finance transactions, with a particular emphasis on broadly syndicated and middle-market collateralized loan obligations (CLOs); both first mortgage and mezzanine commercial real estate loan securitizations (CRE CLOs/CDOs); and rated and unrated leveraged loan and commercial real estate loan warehouse facilities.
In addition, he has extensive experience with derivative products (such as credit default swaps, total return swaps, interest rate swaps and currency swaps) and federal securities laws. In the CLO space, he has served as principal outside counsel to a major investment bank in the development of its CLO and warehousing platform. In the CRE CLO/CDO space, Larry was instrumental in structuring and negotiating both one of the first such transactions to occur since the financial crisis, and one of the first such transactions since the financial crisis that was backed primarily by mezzanine loans.
