Lee T. Polk is a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. Mr. Polk regularly represents clients in employee benefits law, both on the business planning and compliance side of employee benefits (design, establishment, administration and termination of pension and welfare plans) as well as the representation of management and plan fiduciaries in business transactions, dealings with government agencies (IRS, DOL, and PBGC) and disputes, litigation and arbitration involving employee benefits issues. He is listed in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in the Employee Benefits area.
Mr. Polk is immediate past chair of the Qualified Plans Committee of the ABA Section of Real Property Probate & Trust Law. He is a charter fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He has authored numerous articles for legal and business publications and is the author of a four-volume treatise entitled ERISA Practice & Litigation published by West Group and updated annually for legal developments. Mr. Polk received his B.A. with honors from Coe College in 1967 and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1970. He is a member of the Chicago, American and Illinois State Bar Associations, and the ESOP Association.
Mr. Polk is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois as well as before the United States Courts of Appeals for the 3rd, 6th and 7th Circuits; the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, including Trial Bar, Eastern District of Michigan, Eastern District of Wisconsin and Northern District of Indiana; United States Tax Court; United States Claims Court; United States Court of Military Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court.
