Leela Baskaran graduated from the University of London (external programme) with a LLB degree. She was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1997. She was made a partner of SKRINE in January 2009. Leela is a partner in the Intellectual Property division of Skrine and handles trademark registration and advisory work as well as IT and E-Commerce work. She also handles the firm's Franchise portfolio.
Leela's areas of practice include registration of trademarks and general advisory work relating to the various forms of IP rights including trademarks, copyright, industrial design rights and patents. Her experience also includes advising on and drafting of agreements relating to intellectual property such as licensing, transfer and assignment, joint ownership, distributorship, contract manufacturing, and technology transfer.
Leela is also involved in all areas of Franchise advisory work including reviewing of franchise agreements and disclosure documents and liaising with the Franchise Development Division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism on regulatory requirements. She also has experience in IT and E-Commerce matters including advising on Cyberlaws and communication and multi-media issues as well as reviewing and advising on outsourcing agreements, software license and maintenance agreements, service level agreements and related matters. Her experience also includes advising on labelling, consumer protection, data protection, privacy and competition issues.
