Leon Y. Lum is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP and is a member of the firm's Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice.
Previously, Mr. Lum was a law clerk for Foley where he assisted attorneys in patent prosecution, patent application drafting, and client counseling in all areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and nanotechnology.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Lum was a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined and determined the patentability of applications in the fields of specific binding assays, biosensors, and micro- and nano-arrays. As a graduate student, Mr. Lum conducted research in the field of tissue engineering, exploring the effects of extracellular matrix proteins on cells seeded in a three-dimensional polymer matrix.
Mr. Lum received his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2010). He earned a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University (M.S.E., biomedical engineering, 2004) and his bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego (B.S., bioengineering, 2000).
Mr. Lum is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Virginia, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
