Leonard Nesbitt is a partner in our Tax Group. His practice focuses on corporate income tax planning, with an emphasis on capital markets transactions and the taxation of financial institutions.
Mr. Nesbitt has advised on domestic and international tax issues related to the structuring of complex financial products, including over-the-counter derivatives, and securities lending transactions. His tax planning practice also includes advising on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and corporate finance transactions. In addition to his focus on corporate tax planning, Mr. Nesbitt has represented taxpayers in tax disputes and transfer pricing matters with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Mr. Nesbitt has written a number of articles on various tax topics for the Canadian Tax Foundation and other organizations and publications.
Prior to practising law, Mr. Nesbitt was director of programs for a large international aid agency, where he managed humanitarian relief and development projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
While in law school, Mr. Nesbitt was awarded the McCarthy Tétrault National Award for academic excellence. He received his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2004 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2005.
