Lev Kalman concentrates his litigation practice in product liability, mass torts, and insurance coverage. Mr. Kalman represents clients in a variety of tort cases, including:
· product liability
· aviation accidents
· premises liability
· wrongful death and other tort matters
Mr. Kalman's practice involves the representation of manufacturers and retailers in connection with product liability actions and the defense of airports, other public facilities, and property owners from claims of premises defects. Mr. Kalman has represented aviation clients in a wide variety of cases, including mid-air collisions, skydiving accidents, property damage, and other aviation-related accidents. Mr. Kalman advises clients on regulatory compliance issues, including compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 and CPSC standards.
He represents title insurers in connection with policy claims, including disputes over ownership of property due to alleged defects in title, claims of fraudulent transfers of property, professional negligence claims and recoupment actions. Mr. Kalman also represents clients in connection with contract disputes and various real estate litigation matters. Mr. Kalman has represented banks and private lenders in connection with mortgage foreclosures and has handled all aspects of foreclosure, from obtaining judgment through the sale of property at sheriff's sale.
As a member of the consumer financial services litigation team, Mr. Kalman regularly represents lenders and financial institutions in a variety of consumer finance litigation matters in federal bankruptcy and district courts, as well as state courts, including disputes under TILA, RESPA, FCRA, ECOA and FDCPA, state law UDAP claims, and a variety of common law claims.
Representative Matters
· Successfully argued before the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania which affirmed dismissal of defamation action against client.
· Successfully argued before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, in a victory for client, that Commonwealth had no authority to issue citation for single-vehicle incident occurring at Philadelphia International Airport.
· Member of the trial team that won an 8-figure verdict for our client in a defective product case.
Community Service & Affiliations
Mr. Kalman is a member of Blank Rome's pro bono child advocacy practice group, and has volunteered with the Support Center for Child Advocates and Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent, representing clients in dependency and divorce proceedings and victims of violent crimes, with a particular emphasis on protection of First Amendment privacy rights.
