Lewis Smith is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP and is a member of the firm's Insurance & Reinsurance Litigation, Distribution & Franchise and Business Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practices.
Mr. Smith focuses his practice on complex business disputes and litigation matters, and has extensive arbitration experience in particular. His experience includes:
· Serving as a second chair in four arbitration hearings, where he drafted motions and briefs, and prepared clients for deposition and hearing testimony
· Representing a client in government investigation interviews
· Drafting a federal court brief in support of a motion to dismiss
· Defending a third party deposition
· Successfully representing pro bono clients seeking asylum in proceedings in federal immigration court and seeking disability benefits in proceedings before a Social Security Administration administrative law judge
Mr. Smith received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 2008). He received his bachelor's degree in government from Harvard University (B.A., cum laude, 2005). While an undergraduate, Mr. Smith participated in the Harvard College study abroad program and attended Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in Santiago, Chile.
Mr. Smith is proficient in Spanish.
Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Columbia.
