Biography

Background

Lisa Cabel (De Piante) is a partner in our Toronto office's Labour and Employment Group. She was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2005 having graduated from the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law in 2004. Prior to her law degree, Lisa earned an Honours B.A. (with High Distinction) from the University of Toronto.

Lisa's practice focuses on Labour and Employment and Human Rights law. She advises and acts for public and private sector employers with respect to:

Professional Experience

Lisa has appeared as counsel before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Superior Court of Ontario, the Divisional Court of Ontario, the Ontario Court of Appeal. She has also mediated and arbitrated many cases to successful resolution. Lisa has recently been involved in representing:

ˇ a national consumer products company in a successful arbitration to uphold the just cause termination of an employee

ˇ a subsidiary of one of the largest international software development companies in the successful defence of an alleged constructive dismissal

ˇ an insurance administrator in dismissing an action on the basis that the claim was arbitrable

ˇ an international automotive manufacturer in seeking an injunction against union employees

ˇ a leading global Logistics Services Provider in the timely negotiation of two collective agreements

ˇ numerous respondents, including the City of Toronto and a Toronto area hospital in defending claims of discrimination

ˇ a District School Board in successfully determining that an employee's injuries were outside the scope of employment for the purposes of WSIB benefits
