| Biography | Lisa Mantello is a partner at Goodmans, who practices in all areas of financial services with particular expertise in banking, structured finance and derivatives.
She has represented clients on a variety of matters related to credit and equity derivatives, with a focus on credit default swaps. She routinely acts for asset managers and major US financial institutions in relation to synthetic securitizations and derivative transactions.
Lisa led the Goodmans' team providing derivatives advice in connection with the restructuring of third-party structured asset-backed commercial paper (ABCP). Goodmans represented the Pan-Canadian Third Party Asset-Backed Commercial Paper Investors Committee in the $32 billion successful restructuring of ABCP, which became the largest court-supervised debt restructuring in Canadian history and what is believed to be the world's largest private-market restructuring response to the 2008 world-wide credit crunch.
Lisa continues to advise the administrator of the special purpose vehicles resulting from the ABCP restructuring in all matters related to the credit default swaps and related derivative transactions to which those vehicles remain parties, the securitization programs and other investments and assets of those vehicles and, finally, the liabilities, structure and daily operations of those vehicles. She has also acted as ISDA counsel to a syndicate of Canadian banks in connection with the negotiation of various swaps with Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners.
Lisa has extensive experience acting for both lenders and borrowers in domestic and cross-border financings. She has acted on a variety of finance transactions including, asset-based lending, subordinated financings and project finance.
Recently, Lisa represented PON Holdings BV as lender in connection with the financing of Cervelo Cycles Inc. Lisa also represented CanWel Building Materials Income Fund in connection with the completion of the fund's conversion from an income trust to a corporation that involved a $275 million credit facility provided by Wachovia Capital Finance Corporation (Canada). She has also advised the Province of Ontario in connection with the restructuring of Chrysler Canada Inc. and General Motors of Canada Limited.
