Lisa Melanson is a partner in our Intellectual Property Group in Toronto. Her practice primarily focuses on the acquisition, enforcement, and exploitation of patent rights for the life sciences industry.
Lisa provides clients with strategic advice concerning all phases of patent procurement and protection, from conception to commercialization. She also has considerable experience conducting large-scale patentability, infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Lisa worked as an associate in New York, where she advised clients on patent prosecution matters in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical fields. Her clients included pharmaceutical corporations, biotech start-up companies, a top-tier university, and other academic and research institutions.
Lisa received her B.Sc. (Hons.) (Neuroscience / Biology) in 1992 from Dalhousie University, and her LLB in 1995 from Dalhousie Law School. In 1998, she obtained her LLM from the University of Cambridge. Lisa was recognized for practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2002 and the Canadian Patent Office in 2006. She is licensed in Ontario as a Foreign Legal Consultant with respect to the laws of the State of New York and the United States of America (Federal Jurisdiction).
