Diversity at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP

Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, one of California's premier law firms, has been at the forefront of the legal profession since it was founded in 1873. Long recognizing the importance and value of diversity, Luce Forward's goal is to reflect the diversity of our communities as much as possible and to promote communication and understanding among all of those who comprise the Firm.

The Firm takes specific steps to recruit, retain and promote diversity at all levels, including law students and lateral hires. Among the Firm's initiatives in that regard is an expanded outreach to law schools to ensure that we recruit a diverse range of new attorneys. Moreover, the Firm is paying more attention than ever to associate retention, development and mentoring. The Firm recognizes that each lawyer develops individually and that our mentoring efforts must be structured accordingly. In addition to its internal commitment, the Firm regularly sponsors community events at organizations supporting diversity in the legal profession. The following organizations and events are a sampling of those the Firm has sponsored:

The Firm has a standing committee, the Diversity Committee, comprised of minority and non-minority partners and associates, as well as members of the Recruiting and Human Resources Departments. The Diversity Committee addresses issues faced by women and minority attorneys, and involving differences among people including race, religion, age, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, language, medical condition or disability, and culture. Through its sub-committees, the Diversity Committee addresses issues related to community outreach efforts, and the recruitment, retention and evaluation of a diverse group of associates and partners. The Diversity Committee also helps the Firm shape, expand and restate its policies and programs to support its goals of diversity.

The Firm is committed to fostering understanding, communication and respect among all people of the Firm, our clients and within our community. The Firm believes it can and should capitalize on the strengths emanating from these differences. Luce Forward believes that, by drawing on the talents of all of the Firm's personnel, we build an optimal workplace which attracts and retains the best and the brightest, who in turn help us to better serve varying markets and approach services to clients more effectively. In short, Luce Forward recognizes the beneficial impact a strong diversity program has on Firm morale, productivity, and the quality of our legal work.
