Lynn J. Alstadt has had widespread experience in all areas of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition law including litigation, patent solicitation, licensing, patent interference practice, trademark cancellation and opposition proceedings, International Trade Commission investigations, registration of trademarks and copyrights with the United States Customs Service and related exclusion proceedings. Lynn is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. He practices and teaches in the fields of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition law. His work involved a wide range of technical subjects including mechanical, electrical, electronic, e-commerce, biotech, chemical, metallurgical and computer fields. Lynn has obtained and litigated patents on a variety of products including computers, business methods, medical devices, corrosion resistant alloys, consumer products and toys. The result in one case was that Lynn's client acquired the infringer in lieu of payment of damages. Inventors, authors, programmers and business managers have sought Lynn's counsel in negotiating and drafting licenses and employment agreements as well as obtaining patents for them. Federal district courts have recognized Lynn as an expert in patent law and practice. Because of his knowledge and experience, major corporations have selected him as an arbitrator to decide patent infringement claims. Lynn has handled all types of trademark disputes arising in the computer, medical, metallurgical, chemical and consumer products industries. He also successfully registered colors and product configurations in the United States Patent and Trademark office. He has participated in and often supervised patent, trademark and copyright litigation in all levels of courts, including the United States Supreme Court and in administrative agencies including the United States International Trade Commission. In addition, he has coordinated foreign patent litigation on two separate sets of United States and corresponding foreign patents. Through this work, he has gained a working knowledge of the patent systems and the court systems that handle patent matters in all major countries of the world. In 2002, Lynn was elected president of the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association and served as a director of the association for several years. Since 2005, he has been consistently selected to the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® list. He has also been named to the The Best Lawyers in America list since 2006. He was also recognized by Law & Business Research Ltd. of the United Kingdom as one of the best lawyers for trademarks in the United States. All of these awards are based upon interviews with clients and other attorneys in the field. He has been a course planner and co-presenter at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Internet Law Update conference annually since 1998. Lynn is a native of Erie, PA, and has been practicing law since 1976.
