Macavan A. Baird is an associate in the firm's Life Insurance & Annuities Practice Group. Macavan's practice involves a broad range of issues for life insurers, with a focus on litigation stemming from exposure to the secondary market for life insurance. He also represents clients on a variety of litigation and insurance issues, including breach of contract, fraudulent misrepresentation, and coverage disputes.
Prior to joining the firm, he was an associate for Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP in Philadelphia. Although his practice involved a variety of commercial litigation matters, he primarily represented insurers and municipal clients in civil rights cases. Macavan also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ann Marie Donio, U.S. District Court, Camden, New Jersey.
In General. Macavan earned his J.D., with honors, from Rutgers University School of Law - Camden in 2006. During law school, he served as an intern for the Honorable Theodore A. McKee, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He was the co-leader of the student-run Community Dispute Resolution Mediation Project at Rutgers-Camden.
Macavan is admitted to practice in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of New Jersey and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.
Prior to attending law school, Macavan earned his M.A., with distinction, in philosophy from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He received his B.A. from Colgate University with a double major in philosophy and religion.
