Manatt is a national litigation powerhouse.  More than half of our firm’s professionals are litigators, and we handle high profile cases across the entire spectrum of disputes:  civil and criminal, trial and appellate, regulatory and administrative, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, in the U.S and around the world.  We represent clients in nearly every industry involving both the digital and traditional economies, including entrepreneurs and “Fortune 500” multinationals, and we provide them with comprehensive counsel at every stage of a controversy – whether it’s proactive problem avoidance, effective negotiation and settlement, or vigorous advocacy in court and before administrative tribunals.

Leading Attorneys

Manatt has some of the most experienced and respected trial lawyers in the country, highly regarded by clients and peers alike.  Recruited from leading law schools as well as from successful litigation firms, our lawyers are skilled inside and outside the courtroom – combining tenacious trial advocacy with the ability to resolve disputes privately and through negotiation.  A brief listing illustrates the impressiveness of our lawyers’ professional accomplishments, including team members who have:

Multidisciplinary Approach

With such a depth of attorney skill, we take a multidisciplinary approach to achieve our clients’ goals in litigation.  Before litigation, we regularly counsel clients on ways to minimize potential liability exposure, determine other litigation risks and objectives, or assess litigation strategies in light of relevant judicial trends.  Our litigation attorneys frequently resolve disputes through arbitration, mediation, conciliation and other less formal means of negotiated settlement that avoid expensive and time-consuming court actions.

When litigation is necessary, each case is handled by one or more litigators who are specially chosen for that matter, and who work with selected colleagues from throughout the firm for in-depth assistance on the related business, scientific and economic issues.  Our attorneys conduct trials and appeals in federal and state courts and arbitrate in national and international forums.  We are admitted before such specialized tribunals as the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Claims Court, the U.S. Court of International Trade, and the U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals.  In addition, we appear regularly in arbitration and administrative agency proceedings.

In cases that reach the courts, we offer clients the size and experience necessary to conduct full-scale litigation – quickly if needed – that protects or advances their interests.  Whether representing our clients as plaintiffs or defendants, we are vigorous advocates at trial while maintaining the flexibility for advantageous settlement whenever possible.

Client Partnership

We forge enduring partnerships with our clients as they outsource litigation and other legal and business strategy matters.  Manatt serves as national coordinating counsel for a number of clients, directing the conduct of related cases across the country or regionally, as well as the activities of local counsel.  Such arrangements can incorporate service expectations, elements of risk-sharing and information management, as well as the management of multi-million dollar budgets.

Our goal is to give every client the value-added benefit of sound business considerations and thorough knowledge of the facts and the law.  When we work in partnership with you, our litigators are trained to listen first, to understand your goals, concerns and resources.  We then give you a frank assessment of your case, along with a detailed plan and budget for achieving the results you seek.  Because of the size and scope of our practice, we can commit the right number of lawyers and legal personnel to handle your concerns effectively.

Complete and open information management is another cornerstone of our service to every client.  We use leading edge technology to develop extensive shared databases of pleadings, discovery materials, budget tracking, educational seminar information, strategic advisory services and other important data.  Such tools improve the quality and efficiency of discovery and trial preparation and give you secure shared access to the latest information as your case develops.  The result is a high level of communication efficiency that supports teamwork and reduces cost.
