| Biography | Marcos Ríos is a member of the Corporate, M&A, Real Estate, Insurance, and Government Contracts Groups. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, project development and international finance, real estate, government procurement, corporate compliance, insurance and gaming law matters. Mr. Ríos is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Chilean Bar Association, and the American Bar Association's Section of International Law, where he is a Deputy Officer, in addition to Vice-Chair of the International M&A and Joint Venture Committee, the International Corporate Counsel Committee, and the International Procurement Committee, and Senior Counsel and Past Chair of the Latin American and Caribbean Committee. He is a frequent speaker in international seminars on legal matters relevant to his practice, including M&As, corporate compliance, anti-corruption, and public-private partnerships. Mr. Ríos is a co-author, among other publications, of: Joint Ventures in the International Arena, Second Edition, International Practitioner's Deskbook Series, ABA Section of International Law (2010); Doing Business in South America, International Practitioner's Deskbook Series, ABA Section of International Law (2011); and the 2011 Anti-Corruption Regulation Book, Getting the Deal Through (2011). Mr. Ríos is a Professor of U.S. Business Law at Universidad de Chile and American University's joint LL.M. Program. He is also an active participant in the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Competition, as final-round judge in charge of selecting the Chilean Team (2007-present). Prior to rejoining our firm in 2004, Mr. Ríos was senior associate with Hogan & Hartson L.L.P. in Washington D.C. (2001-04), international associate with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York (1999-2000), senior associate at our firm (1996-99), and in-house counsel with Western Mining Corporation in Havanna, Cuba (1995-96). Mr. Ríos earned his Chilean law degree (J.D. equivalent) from Universidad de Chile School of Law (1994), and was later admitted to the Chilean Bar. He earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree, with honors, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001, and was later admitted to the District of Columbia Bar. He is fluent in Spanish and English. |
