Maria is an associate in the Atlanta office of Troutman Sanders and is a member of the Environmental & Natural Resources practice group. Her practice includes providing environmental assistance for water and waste issues for clients in the utility, industrial, and municipal governmental sectors.
Prior to joining Troutman Sanders in 2011, Maria worked in the Environmental Affairs Department of Georgia Power Company. She managed the Environmental Compliance Center where solid wastes, polychlorinated biphenyls, lighting wastes and regulated equipment are collected and consolidated for disposal in compliance with the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. In addition, she was responsible for handling companywide environmental emergencies in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Maria also has over a decade of experience in the power generation arena. In 1993 she began working in the New Products and Services for Demand Side Management Department of Florida Power Corporation as a co-op student. During her two years at Florida Power Corporation, she branched out into the Plant Performance Testing Department where she participated in heat rate and Continuous Emissions Monitoring acceptance testing. Maria then began working for Georgia Power Company in 1999 as an Engineer and held various leadership roles throughout the company, including serving as a Maintenance Team Leader at Plant Wansley, Operations Team Leader at Plant Scherer and as the Assistant To the Senior V.P. within the company's Generation department. She has also held the role of Compliance Manager for Plant McDonough & Plant Morgan Falls and Engineering and Planning Manager at Plant Yates.
