Biography

Mariana Richmond is a partner in the Corporate Department in the Indianapolis, Indiana office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP and heads the Immigration Practice Group. She is a member of the Global Services Practice Group and limits her practice to immigration law, serving corporate as well as individual clients. Ms. Richmond assists multinational corporations with the transfer and hiring of foreign nationals for their operations in the United States on a temporary or permanent basis. She advises in-house counsel and human resources administrators who need guidance on immigration matters related to the employment of foreign nationals in the United States. Ms. Richmond also counsels individual clients including, but not limited to, professionals, athletes, scientists, and university faculty and research staff.

Ms. Richmond has served as director of legal support and special counsel by appointment of the attorney general for the Alien Labor Certification Unit (Indiana Department of Workforce Development) and liaison to the Alien Labor Certification Unit of the U.S. Department of Labor in Chicago. She has experience in alien labor certification and all employment-based immigration matters, as well as family-based immigration.

Ms. Richmond served as a member of the board of governors of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and chairperson of the Indiana Chapter of AILA (1996-98). She is a frequent speaker on employment-based immigration at seminars at the regional and national levels. Ms. Richmond's professional recognitions include listings in The Best Lawyers in America® 2007-2011 in the field of immigration law, and in the 2004 edition of Indiana Super Lawyers® magazine in the field of immigration.

Ms. Richmond received B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from the University of Bucharest, Romania, and a J.D. from Indiana University. She is fluent in Romanian and also speaks Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, and French. Ms. Richmond is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana.
