A Partner in the Corporate Department, Mark leverages a thorough knowledge of tax law to guide clients through all varieties of tax-related controversies. He advises individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations and tax-exempt organizations on a variety of matters including state, local and IRS audit and collection responses and appeals, responses to IRS liens, levies, installment agreements and offers in compromise, and civil and criminal penalty tax controversies. Understanding that today's regulatory atmosphere carries increased scrutiny for tax missteps, Mark works closely with his clients to seek out efficient and cost-effective resolutions that mitigate their exposure and reduce or prevent further liability. He has extensive experience in both state and federal courts, particularly in the United States Tax Court, as well as representing clients before the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals and property tax appeals at Ohio county Boards of Revision. He has advised a diverse portfolio of clients through tax controversies, ranging from a global consumer products company to individuals with unfiled and wrongly filed federal international tax obligations. Mark also offers proactive tax counseling to clients, enabling them to identify and avoid tax controversies before they arise.
Mark also handles a variety of ERISA and employee benefit matters for his clients, including executive compensation issues, developing and structuring benefit plans, and ERISA defense. Additionally, he utilizes his experience in the business world to serve as general counsel to business clients, providing advice on everything from mergers and acquisitions to corporate governance.
