Mark Thibodeaux is Deputy Practice Leader of Sutherland's Cybersecurity and Privacy team and a commercial litigator. He has advised companies for more than 25 years on privacy and data security matters. Mark assists clients with incident response and subsequent investigations and litigation, including advising an international drilling contractor's internal investigation into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He also counsels clients on electronic discovery in complex litigation matters, having served as liaison for companies facing major fraud investigations before the U.S. Department of Justice, SEC, FERC, CFTC, states' attorneys general, and the U.S. Senate.
Prior to practicing law, Mark served as a business adviser and information technology professional. This included almost eight years with two of the largest public accounting firms as an auditor and consultant on internal controls and information security, and almost 10 years as in-house security adviser and ultimately chief information technology officer for a major international energy company. A Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Texas, and a Certified Information Privacy Professional, Mark is combining this past IT business experience with his legal know-how to offer privacy and information security counsel to his clients at Sutherland.
