Services Available

Our practice group consists of over 40 attorneys who handle only workers' compensation matters. These attorneys work throughout eleven of the firm's offices, which affords our clients the benefit of the local presence necessary to ensure acceptance within and knowledge of the local legal communities where workers compensation matters are litigated. Our attorneys have a constant presence in the courts within these localities. They have gained the respect of the judges they regularly appear before and the attorneys against whom they compete. Further, they live and are active in the communities in which they practice.

Workers' compensation is a fast-paced practice which requires a combination of reasonable attorney caseloads and a high degree of familiarity with the law. Our practice requires timely and effective communication with our clients. The members of this group place a high priority on the prompt return of telephone calls, coupled with providing timely and meaningful status reports to our clients.

Although we provide cost-effective, region-wide representation from eleven offices, our practice group is centrally managed to ensure a consistently high quality work product. Management procedures we use include the internal auditing of attorney files at no additional expense to our clients. They also include a sophisticated computer system which links all of our offices together into one efficient network.

While we are vigorous litigators, we recognize that litigation should not be the primary focus of an employer's successful workers' compensation program. Rather, significant workers' compensation dollars can be saved through effective initial management of claims and innovative return-to-work programs. Our attorneys are on the cutting edge of case law developments and are able to assist in the design, implementation, and continuation of such programs. We also provide seminars and workshops for our clients.

Niki T. Ingram, of our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, office, is Vice-Chairperson of this Department.  Ms. Ingram, a member of the firm's Board of Directors, is the author of numerous articles dealing with workers' compensation topics, and she has lectured frequently on workers' compensation issues at the request of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute, The National Business Institute, the Defense Research Institute, the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, and local business groups.  She has also spoken at the national conferences of the American Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyer Association, SEAK, and LRP Publication's annual National Workers' Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo.  Ms. Ingram is a past member of the Investigative Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Committee on Judicial Selection and Retention.  She has served as chairperson of the Workers' Compensation and Employment Liability Law Committee of the American Bar Association's Tort and Insurance Practice Section and on the American Bar Association's Survey Committee of the Workers' Compensation and Employment Law Liability Compensation Section.  She is currently on the Board of the Philadelphia Lawyer magazine.  In addition, Mr. Ingram has been a member of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers since 2005.

Timothy A. Casey (302-552-4306 or tacasey@mdwcg.com), of our Wilmington, Delaware, office, is the managing attorney of our workers' compensation group in our Wilmington office.  He is a past-Chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Delaware State Bar Association.  In the October 2001 and 2006 editions of Delaware Today, he was listed among Delaware's 175 top attorneys.  Mr. Casey was selected as one of the top workers' compensation attorneys for employers.  Significantly, fellow members of the Delaware State Bar Association were involved in the selection process.  Additionally, again through a rigorous peer review process, Mr. Casey was elected to the prestigious Best Lawyers in America as well as Delaware Super Lawyers.

In order to keep our clients abreast of the developments in this area of law, we publish a monthly newsletter, What's Hot in Workers' Comp, which summarizes the latest changes in case law.

The attorneys in this group are extensively published in such publications as Counterpoint (the official newsletter of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute), Bests Review, Business Insurance, Pennsylvania Law Journal-Reporter, The Complete Lawyer, The Journal of the Philadelphia Workers' Compensation Claim Association, The Lawyers Journal, The Philadelphia Legal Intelligencer, Workers' Compensation Monitor, New Jersey Law Journal, The Philadelphia Lawyer, and the Pennsylvania Self-Insurers Association Newsletter.  Members of the group also co-edit several books in this field:  Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation and Occupational Disease and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry's annual Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Guide.

We would welcome the opportunity to work with you in vigorously defending your workers' compensation litigation.  Consistent with our firm's proactive approach and philosophy, we also welcome the opportunity to present educational seminars and workshops as a mutually beneficial introduction to one another.
