Martin Jacobs has more than 40 years of sophisticated business and transaction law experience. He focuses his practice in commercial, corporate, real estate and business law, with emphasis on planning, structuring, negotiating and documenting transactions and resolving conflicts. He also is involved in matters related to horse racing and gaming.
Mr. Jacobs served as executive vice president and general counsel of the Maryland Jockey Club (Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park), where he participated for over 20 years in managing a complex regulated business enterprise generating over $500 million annually in gross revenues. In addition to participating in day-to-day management, he negotiated all major contracts and leases, including national television broadcast, cable and sponsorship arrangements; acquisitions, sales and leases of property; and agreements with unions and with horsemen's and jockeys' groups.
Mr. Jacobs has represented financial institutions and other lenders and investors in numerous transactions. His experience has also included numerous licensing and other administrative law matters, both federal and state, in addition to testifying as a knowledgeable witness. He has extensive relationships with legislative and executive branch governmental officials, as well as with leading lobbyists, in Maryland.
Before entering private practice, he served in the Attorney General's Honors Program at the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he briefed and argued numerous cases in U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals around the country.
