Mary Hansen Smith is an associate with Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer P.A., concentrating her practice in the areas of general education law with an emphasis on labor and employment law issues. General education law experience includes providing guidance on a variety of school law matters and labor and employment issues arising under state and federal law, arbitrations, scope of negotiation proceedings, tenure proceedings, and negotiations. Labor and employment law experience includes all aspects of labor and employment litigation, including LAD, CEPA, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, wrongful discharge, wage and hour, FMLA, FLA and retaliation claims, in both state and federal courts. Additional employment experience includes providing sexual harassment and diversity training, performing investigations and reviewing employment handbooks and severance agreements.
While at Seton Hall University School of Law, Ms. Smith was a member of the Seton Hall Law Review. Ms. Smith graduated summa cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law and was the valedictorian of her graduating class.
Ms. Smith is a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the New Jersey Association of School Boards Attorneys.
