Biography

Mary-Pat practices civil litigation and has trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts. Mary-Pat focuses her practice in the area of financial services and securities litigation, including disputes arising out of both coverage and bad faith claims handling against professional and specialty lines liability carriers, banking, creditors' rights, and limited partnership disputes. Mary-Pat is fluent in French. Mary-Pat's particular experience in financial services issues, coupled with her reasoned tenacity, provides Edwards Wildman Palmer's clients with quick, efficient and desirable results.

Notable Experience

· Defense of national financial institutions insurers in coverage and alleged bad faith claims handling cases.

· Mary-Pat is actively involved in the representation of liability insurers in coverage and bad faith/extra contractual litigation throughout the country in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy courts.

· Mary-Pat has represented insurers of investment advisers in fee dispute litigation under the Investment Advisors Act of 1940 and state law.

· Currently part of a team of Edwards Wildman Palmer lawyers serving as regional counsel to a large domestic insurance company for extra-contractual/bad faith insurance litigation.

· Obtained summary judgment on behalf of an insurance company in a Massachusetts state court action on bad faith claims on D&O and E&O policies.

· In Ohio, Mary-Pat obtained summary judgment for a captive finance company against the guarantor/dealer in a deficiency action. The guarantor's counterclaims included conspiracy, breach of fiduciary duty, and failure to conduct a private secured party sale in a commercially reasonable manner.

· Mary-Pat also obtained summary judgment in Ohio for a captive finance company against dealer claims of wrongful conspiracy against a manufacturer and the captive finance company in connection with the captive's possession of a dealership and the manufacturer's denial of the replacement dealer.

Before Edwards Wildman

While attending law school, Mary-Pat was the Editor-in-Chief of the McGill Law Journal. Additionally, she was extremely active in Moot competition, placing first in the Stikeman, Elliot Competitive Moot in 1993. In 1994 she was a Top Pleader in the Quebec Bar Prize Competitive Moot, and was a member of the Semifinal Bora Laskin Competitive Moot Team in 1995. Upon graduation from McGill University, Mary-Pat was awarded the Rosa B. Guiltieri and Chief Justice Greenshields Awards.

Besides Edwards Wildman

Mary-Pat was elected the First Vice President of the New England-Canada Business Council. She is also on the Board and is co-Chair for the New England-Canada Business Council's annual U.S.-Canada Technology, Trade, and Investment Conference. Mary-Pat reads, likes to cook, and has run a sub-4:00 marathon (Oct. 2010).
