Matthew J. Swietlik is senior counsel and registered patent attorney with Foley & Lardner LLP. Mr. Swietlik provides counseling relating to a wide variety of intellectual property issues, particularly those involving patent procurement and counseling, patent infringement and validity analyses, and intellectual property due diligence. He counsels clients in a variety of technical disciplines, including wireless communications, medical devices, financial services, and other consumer and industrial products and services. Mr. Swietlik is a member of the firm's Mechanical & Electromechanical Technologies Practice and Medical Devices Industry Team.
Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Swietlik was a manufacturing engineer and project manager for an avionics equipment manufacturing company in Wisconsin.
Mr. Swietlik received his law degree, magna cum laude, from Marquette University Law School in 2005. During law school, he was an editor for the Marquette Law Review. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993.
Mr. Swietlik is admitted to practice in the state of Wisconsin and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Mr. Swietlik is co-author of the "Ninth Circuit Rejects Challenge to Copyright Protection for Orphan Works," which was published in the World Copyright Law Report on March 1, 2007.
