Matthew Halpin is Ottawa Chair of our litigation group. His practice includes corporate and commercial litigation, insurance, restructuring and insolvency, arbitration, dispute resolution, environmental and trust litigation. He has extensive experience acting for corporations, chartered banks, trust companies and other financial institutions. He represents other insolvency professionals such as trustees in bankruptcy, monitors, and both privately and court appointed receivers. He frequently acts in restructuring matters under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. Mr. Halpin also represents both domestic and foreign clients in a variety of commercial and insurance related matters. He has acted as counsel in numerous ADR files, including ad hoc arbitrations and mediations. He has international experience before the ICC's International Court of Arbitration.
Mr. Halpin has appeared before all levels of the Ontario provincial courts, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Federal Court of Canada and the Ontario Assessment Review Board. Mr. Halpin is fluently bilingual and pleads cases in both English and French.
