Matt is a Member in the Intellectual Property Section in the firm's Boston office. His practice involves domestic and foreign patent prosecution primarily in the area of biotechnology, including the fields of biochemistry, organic chemistry, cellular and molecular biology, oncology, immunology, microbiology, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, stem cells, iRNA, microfluidics and medical devices. His practice also involves the preparation of validity and infringement opinions, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence. Matt also advises clients on issues relating to patent portfolio management and licensing.
Prior to joining Mintz, Matt's scientific research focused on estrogen receptor and novel splicing factors in breast cancer. He is the author of numerous papers and abstracts in the field of estrogen receptor biochemistry and breast cancer progression.
Matt is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received a B.S., cum laude, in biology/zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, an M.A. in medical sciences and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine. He was awarded his J.D., magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Matt is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association.
