Biography

Maurice M. Suh is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. He is a member of the Litigation Department and its White Collar Defense and Investigations and Crisis Management Practice Groups. He focuses his practice on complex business litigation and the representation of clients in conjunction with governmental compliance and enforcement actions.

Mr. Suh has appeared before numerous state and federal courts in conjunction with pretrial, trial and appellate proceedings, as well as commercial arbitration matters. He has handled litigation matters in cases involving class actions, mortgage-backed securities, securities litigation, employment law claims, accountant malpractice, qui tam actions, and business torts. Mr. Suh was selected for the Los Angeles Business Journal's "Best of the Bar" for Litigation list and the Daily Journal's "Top 100 - California's Leading Lawyers" list. He was named among the nation's leading attorneys for the Criminal Defense: White Collar category in the 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of The Best Lawyers in America and he received a top tier ranking in the 2009 to 2011 editions of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business in the category of Sports Law: Athletic Disputes: Nationwide.

Mr. Suh has previously served as Deputy Mayor of Homeland Security and Public Safety for the City of Los Angeles. In that capacity, Mr. Suh had oversight over all homeland security and public safety issues for the City of Los Angeles, including the Port of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports. As Deputy Mayor, Mr. Suh developed the Office of Homeland Security and Public Safety, which has responsibility over the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department and the Emergency Preparedness Department and their combined 17,500 employees and $1.7B budget.

In addition, Mr. Suh has served as a Deputy Chief of the Public Corruption and Government Fraud Section of the United States Attorney's Office of the Central District of California. While there, he prosecuted and supervised a number of public corruption and official misconduct cases against federal and state law enforcement officials, as well as a wide variety of fraud and environmental crimes cases. In that capacity, Mr. Suh has received the Prosecutor of the Year Award (2001, International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, S.C.), as well as the Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney, and numerous other awards from federal law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Suh has lectured widely on legal and professional issues for the ABA, DRI, CEB, National Advocacy Center and federal law enforcement agencies on the subjects of trial advocacy, successful arbitration and mediation, internal investigations and matters involving corporate responsibility and FCPA compliance. In addition, Mr. Suh has lectured on numerous subjects related to homeland security, emergency preparedness and policing for universities, agencies and the business community. He has served as Adjunct Professor of Law at both Loyola Law School and The George Washington University National Law Center.

Mr. Suh graduated from Columbia College of Columbia University in 1986 (summa cum laude, phi beta kappa) and Columbia Law School of Columbia University in 1989.

Mr. Suh serves on the Region One Homeland Security Advisor's Council, as well as the advisory board of California Forensic Science Institute. In addition, he is a Co-Chair of the Securities Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation.
