Practice/Industry Group Overview

Commercial Litigation
We represent some of the largest corporations in the United States, Canada, Germany and Japan in complex commercial litigation relating to contracts, business torts, fraud, bankruptcy, construction, franchise disputes, securities litigation and trade secrets. We regularly defend class-action litigation and have enjoyed great success defeating attempts to have class actions certified. We also have unique experience in whistle-blower actions throughout the United States.

Professional Liability
We represent a wide variety of professionals in all aspects of professional liability, including architects, engineers, surveyors, educators, insurance agents and brokers, lawyers, real estate agents and brokers. We also provide the full range of legal services to professionals relating to their practice including their contracts, insurance, regulatory and employment matters.

Products Liability
We defend manufacturers, retailers, designers and insurers in complex product liability cases involving pharmaceuticals, tobacco products, material handling equipment, construction materials, electrical wiring, asbestos, food, clothing, cookware, automotive products and juvenile products. MBT lawyers also provide quality control counseling and risk management advice, perform risk/exposure assessments and help clients understand and comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.

White Collar Criminal Defense
We counsel corporations and individuals as witnesses and as potential or actual defendants before federal grand juries. Our white collar defense practice encompasses trials and appeals in a wide variety of substantive criminal areas including RICO, tax, antitrust and issues related to corporate financial reporting and accounting. We have also successfully tried jury cases in defense of public officeholders accused of RICO, tax and other federal criminal violations.

Environmental
MBT’s environmental practice area helps clients navigate the constantly changing and complex world of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations. Our attorneys bring extensive experience in a broad spectrum of industries including manufacturing, waste management, building materials, cosmetic, hazardous waste transportation and the food industry. MBT attorneys have proven experience in all environmental media including Superfund (CERCLA), Air, Waste (Solid and Hazardous), Water and Remediation.

Eminent Domain
MBT attorneys represent commercial property owners in condemnation actions in which the State of Illinois or local government bodies seek property acquisitions. In an effort to avoid litigation, we have negotiated with the acquiring public body to establish a favorable market price. Where such a course proves unattainable, our attorneys have challenged the authority of the condemning body, or litigated the fair market value of property to provide our clients appropriate compensation for the taking.
